COMMITMENT TO THE CAUSE OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE: THE FIRE WITHIN

From the January 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THERE ARE MANY WORTHY CAUSES to which people commit their lives. There's the cause of peace, the end of global poverty, the betterment of human life, the uplifting of women worldwide, the protection of animals and the environment—to mention just a few.

Then why is commitment to the Cause of Christian Science not merely another in a long line of commitments to even the best, most beneficial of human causes?

Because Christian Science has come in fulfillment of Biblical prophecy—specifically Christ Jesus' prophecy of the coming of another Comforter, which he identified as the Holy Ghost, and which would be with us always. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy defined the Holy Ghost as, "Divine Science; the development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love" (p. 588). The Holy Ghost—this Science, this law of God, the divine energy of infinite Love that governs all creation—literally demonstrates and maintains the perfect harmony of God and His universe.
