Holy Presence

From the October 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I'm early for church this morning,
park down the block, get out of my car
and stand beside it to absorb sunshine.
I want to stay outside a while,
and there is time.

I walk down to the river
where the presence, peace, and beauty
of life are strong in morning sunshine.
Mallard ducks, Canada geese and white swans
drift on water running toward the sea.
Swallows, acrobats of the air,
swoop, swerve and dive,
then fly just above the water's surface
and drink while fully on the wing.

God is here, this moment and always,
communicates holy presence in life, in beauty, in peace.

It's time to walk slowly upslope in morning sunshine
and in the door.
Sun shines in our windows and lights the people
in their presence, peace, and beauty,
lights the readers' faces
and the words that fly to us through the air,
and we drink of this healing message
while fully on the wing.

God is here, this moment and always,
demonstrates holy presence in life, in beauty, in peace.
