Church Alive

Budding churches, spreading branches

A church grows in Port Townsend, Washington.

From the December 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Welcome to this healing service presented by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Port Townsend, an active branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. We are so grateful you are here!

As First Reader, I love starting our notices with this particular welcome to our beautiful little church. We are a newly blossomed branch of The Mother Church, and after being a Christian Science Society for over 30 years, this is a joy to announce.

As a society, we had maintained a Christian Science Reading Room for many years and hosted Christian Science lectures on and off, so we’d already been fulfilling many of the functions of a branch church (see Church Manual, pp. 63 and 95).
