I joined The Mother Church as soon as I could, when I was 12 years old. I had already been awaiting the day for quite some time when my acceptance letter arrived in the mail, and I was absolutely thrilled. I loved reading the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson with my family
every morning, going to Sunday School, and praying and experiencing Christian Science healing. So, joining in membership with so many others who felt the same way was natural and exciting.
As ecstatic as I was to join The Mother Church then, my love for and appreciation of membership continue to grow deeper today. There is something incredibly meaningful about being part of a worldwide group of healers. It’s really quite special that anyone can be an active, contributing, loved member—and feel the support of the rest of the membership—no matter where he or she is in the world.
I’ve discovered, through encounters with Church members all over the globe, that Mother Church membership is a strong bond—it’s like a family. For instance, when I contacted Church members in Africa in conjunction with my undergraduate thesis, my e-mail in-box was quickly inundated with friendly responses. All that these individuals knew about me was that I was a Church member an ocean away from them, writing a college thesis on the Christian Science movement in their countries. Yet the immediate response was one of trust, support, and eagerness to help. And on top of that, friendships began to form, too!
