Letters

From the August 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Journal has a new column coming soon called “Learning from what Jesus said.” Whether you’re inspired by the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ parables, or what the master Christian said during the last supper—or something else entirely—we’re interested in hearing how Christ Jesus’ words have brought meaning and depth to your practice of Christian Science. Sharing healing experiences that relate to the topic is welcome but not required. See http://jsh.christianscience.com/submit for submission information.

I have to express my heartfelt gratitude for the May Journal! Although every article was beautifully written, four were particularly inspiring to me. James Spencer’s article, “Our only preachers,” presented a new way of viewing the term read from the desk each Sunday. Mary Ten Eyck’s article, “Acknowledging the message, and the messenger,” clearly articulates the need to adhere to the Manual By-Law “Announcing Author’s Name” (see Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 58–59). Lynn Jackson’s article, “Our pure origin and heritage,” reminds readers that “here and now we, as God’s image and likeness, are already perfect. We’re already whole. We’re already complete.” “Defending our innocence” by Lois Degler highlights the need to affirm the “allness of good” in order to denounce and destroy evil. Degler’s statement, “The all-power of God excludes any possibility of evil, and the recognition of this fact is what destroys evil in our lives,” is one that we can use to heal any challenge—physical, personal, or business-related, as well as financial.
