The Science of God’s allness heals

From the April 2019 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There have been so many clear healings in my experience as a Christian Scientist. This wonderful, constantly renewing way of comprehending and utilizing the power and presence of God is aptly called Christian Science, because its study and practice bring real, reliable healing.

In one case, I remember visiting my son and daughter-in-law for dinner, when I heard a loud shout and bang coming from the kitchen. My son’s wife had accidentally grabbed the handle of a large steel skillet with her bare hand, forgetting it was still hot from the oven. As I heard the exclamation and the pan dropping to the floor, I rushed over to help. She was running her hand under cold water, before wrapping it with a towel loaded with ice. The wrapped hand indicated an aggressive claim of a burn, and she expressed considerable pain. She gratefully accepted my offer to pray for her.

My prayer to help her began with getting quiet to better feel God’s presence, comfort, and love. In this silence, I acknowledged that this healing was going to need God’s present authority—nothing less—and I knew this would involve mentally challenging the world’s views about chance, accident, injury, and other physical laws that would make us think “I am hurt!” I prayed to let divine Love allay all fear and to see clearly that the real woman in this case was actually forever a perfectly expressed, reflected idea of God—the incorporeal image and likeness of our Father-Mother God.
