Testimonies of Healing

A deep feeling of gratitude impels me to give thanks for...

From the April 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A deep feeling of gratitude impels me to give thanks for what Christian Science has done for me and mine. It found me some two and a half years ago in a sad condition. I was so weighed down mentally by various diseases and by sorrow that I bad ceased to expect anything good, and I took it for granted that serious troubles would occur. Christian Science in the first place greatly strengthened my faith, for here I found a concept of God such as I had instinctively hoped for. I experienced a sense of peace unknown to me, and felt that I could not miss one service.

Our little girl was then taken ill with a severe and supposedly contagious disease. My husband called a physician, and the disease took a favorable course; but after the physician stated that the child had recovered, she had so severe a relapse that I felt certain material means would be vain this time. I urged my husband to consent to my asking for help in Christian Science, and he did, whereupon a practitioner took up treatment. Divine Love was made manifest in a way exceeding our expectations, our child being freed of the swelling and of the pain within a few days; and she was healed at the same time of growths in the nose which had before necessitated an operation. Shortly after this experience I asked for treatment myself, and experienced help in being healed of severe abdominal trouble. I was able to lay aside a support which I had worn for twenty four years, and was also healed of a stomach and heart affection of years' standing. I also regained the sense of smell, which I had lost through an overdose of an anesthetic while undergoing an operation. Later on, my husband was healed of nervous exhaustion and of rupture. Some time ago our child was taken ill with a malignant disease of the throat, but a single treatment dispelled the disease, and divine Love was manifested in health and freshness.

I would also like to tell of a great joy which I experienced on a visit at my home. I presented the truth which our beloved Leader has so faithfully stated, to a seventyyear-old friend who had lain in had very ill for three months and who, according to the physician, had but a very short while to live. She grasped the truth, and recovered her health within a few days. This was two years ago, and today she is well and able to manage her household. She is grateful with all her heart to God, and to our beloved Leader. For all these and many more blessings, and especially for the spiritual uplift which brings us a larger sense of freedom and of happiness, words must ever fail to express our gratitude. Our lives must attest it through daily striving to draw nearer unto the eternal good, God, and to grow in understanding; and we owe this to the self-sacrificing work of our beloved and revered Leader.
