After six years of living in the light of Truth, I feel impelled by an overwhelming sense of gratitude to tell of some of the blessings which Christian Science has brought to me. When I first sought its aid I was in a state of utter despair. I had suffered for years with various diseases, had had two surgical operations, and seemed to get better of one ailment only to have a worse one come upon me. Finally my condition became one of a complication of acute stomach trouble, appendicitis, sleeplessness, and extreme nervousness. I was at this time trying to do the work of a teacher in the public schools, but was so exhausted mentally and physically every night that it seemed as if each day's work would be the last. I had been on a strict diet for five months, had used a stomach-pump for weeks, was a slave to drugs, and was getting worse all the time. The attacks, which were said to be due to appendicitis, came on at intervals, and the physicians gave me no hope of any relief except by another operation.
One Friday night I left my work with the thought that I should not take it up again, as I had reached the limit of human endurance and could not go on. On my return home that evening, my mother said that I might try Christian Science, assuring herself and me that if I received no help I could still have the operation. On Saturday I sought the services of a practitioner and received immediate relief. I did return to my work the next Monday, and with hope in my heart, for I had caught the first gleam of a great light, which has not ceased to illumine my path in the years that have passed. In ten treatments I was healed of all the diseases from which I had been suffering, and have not had a return of any of them. Some time later I was enabled to lay aside glasses which I had been told by the best oculists I must always wear. Besides all this, we have had many other proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science as a healing agent.
For the goodness of God as manifested in this physical healing I am abundantly grateful, but for the spiritual awakening and uplift which have come through the effort to gain an understanding of God as Love, divine Principle, only a life spent in helping to carry this gospel of salvation to earth's sick and weary ones, can attest my gratitude. In my progress in knowing the truth I have been greatly helped by our services and literature, and I am grateful for these, also for the privilege of work in the Sunday school and for class instruction. To God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, I offer heartfelt thanks, and to our beloved Leader, through whose patient self-sacrificing labor we have been enabled to behold and receive this gift of Christ, Truth, I shall never cease to be grateful for this blessing to all mankind.—Los Angeles, Cal.
