Testimonies of Healing

I am deeply grateful to God, also...

From the January 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am deeply grateful to God, also to our Leader, for the many blessings which have come to me from the unfoldment of truth in my consciousness through the study of Christian Science. I was in bondage to sickness and pain for many years. On two occasions I had made all preparations to go under an exploratory operation, as the physicians were baffled over my case and thought it the only way to find out what the trouble was. My husband had employed specialists of high standing in our own city and elsewhere, but I seemed to get no relief, and he would not consent to an operation, as the doctors could give no assurance that I would survive it. He felt that there must be help for me without it, and his loving care and helpful words kept up hope and courage. Mentally I suffered most from feeling that I could not bring some sunshine into my home, in return for all that was being done for me.

One night I was taken much worse, and as the doctor we were then employing was out of town, we called one who lived near, who after a few visits diagnosed my case as a serious affection of the kidney. He did not advise an operation, as he considered me too weak to endure it, so for three years more I continued to suffer as before, gradually growing weaker and more nervous. I was not free at any time from headaches, and the greater number of nights I was subject to sleeplessness, which was incident to my condition. My eyes also were affected, and I wore glasses by order of my physicians and believed that I could not dispense with them. At a later period new complications appeared, which increased my discouragement. I felt that I had entirely lost confidence in the ability of physicians or medicine to give me relief, although I was grateful for the kind and patient efforts of my doctors to help me.

During the latter part of this time our grandson was stricken with what seemed to be a nervous trouble which seriously affected his eyes and his whole system. For two years he lost the benefit of school, and though attended by the best physicians that could be secured, he seemed to grow worse. His eyes were in such a condition that the doctors ordered him very powerful glasses, but these gave no apparent relief. Having heard of Christian Science, his mother concluded to seek help for him through the aid of a practitioner, all other means having failed. The result was that in two weeks he dispensed with glasses, and great improvement was apparent, which increased until the cure was perfected.
