Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

It is with a grateful heart that I...

From the January 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a grateful heart that I tell of the many blessings which my family and myself have experienced through Christian Science. I was nerve-racked for sixteen years, the trouble at times reaching an acute stage. In January, 1910, it suddenly manifested itself in such a severe form that inside of two days four different physicians were summoned, who were unable, however, to cope with the case. I then was treated by one of the best local specialists for nervous diseases and remained under his care for eighteen weeks, during which time electricity was used in the most varied applications, besides which other means were resorted to. I experienced some general relief, but about the time when it was thought that I would be dismissed cured, nervous debility set in again as markedly as when treatment was begun. My courage now failed me entirely, for I had set all my hopes on the skill of these trained physicians.

During these dreary times, my attention was drawn more than once to Christian Science, and this led me to attend several Wednesday evening meetings and to secure a few copies of Der Herold and other literature on the subject. I gained sufficient confidence in the teachings of Christian Science to turn to a local practitioner for help, which was willingly given, and that which the physicians had been unable to accomplish with eighteen weeks' daily treatment was realized, with God's help, inside of a week, with four treatments only, through the understanding of Christian Science. The nervous debility disappeared. A year and a half has elapsed since, and I have not experienced the slightest sense of weakness. A severe stomach and bowel trouble, to which I had been subject for four years, has disappeared through the correct apprehension of the divine omnipotence and love, although no special attention was given to it. As early as a year ago I gradually forgot, when retiring at night, to use the many remedies which had been prescribed. The physician had told the board of the sick fund to which I belonged that they should not spend any more money on me, as there was no chance of my recovering health.

My mother-in-law was healed of very painful rheumatism with a few treatments from the practitioner, and our eight-year-old boy, who was afflicted with growths in the nose, although an operation had been performed previously for the removal of the same, was freed of these within a short time, no trace of them remaining. But more than for all these instances of physical healing, do we thank God, also our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for the spiritual illumination and the true sense of freedom which has come to us as the result of our attendance upon the Christian Science services and meetings, as well as through the faithful reading of our Christian Science literature.—
