Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

The pleasant duty devolves upon...

From the July 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The pleasant duty devolves upon me to testify to the benefits derived from the study of Christian Science. During the fall of 1911 I became afflicted with a malignant inflammation of the mouth, which lasted quite a while and eventually turned into a serious disease. The physician being unable to cope with the case, I applied for the first time to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment; and although I maintained an attitude of skepticism with regard to the outcome of mental treatment, I experienced great surprise in finding that the trouble was gradually disappearing.

After this unquestionable proof of the efficacy of metaphysical treatment, I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the reading of which became to me a source of great joy. I was interested as I had never been by any other book, and soon felt the beneficent effects attending my reading. For years my state of health had not been all that could be desired, as I suffered among other things with frequent attacks of indigestion. This inharmonious condition, however, disappeared imperceptibly, and a severe eye affection, for which no special treatment was given, has also improved to a sufficient extent to enable me to work at all times without glasses, although I had been wearing them since early childhood.

These benefits in and of themselves would have been sufficient to prepossess me in favor of Christian Science; yet it was not the inherent healing power of its teachings which led me to an appreciation of it, since it is only a means of Truth's outward expression, but rather was it that morally uplifting and redeeming power which is revealed to every one who enters into the new-old yet recently discovered land of Christian Science.
