With feelings of deepest gratitude...

From the March 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With feelings of deepest gratitude for the manifold benefits which have come to my family through Christian Science, I relate the following incident, trusting it may be the means of bringing assurance of help to some one called upon to undergo a like experience. There is at this time such a wide-spread feeling of apprehension regarding the result of dog bites, I feel it is particularly opportune that I tell of this demonstration.

One Saturday afternoon my youngest boy, then four years of age, was at play in an adjoining yard, when a bulldog bit him viciously on the arm near the shoulder, his teeth sinking their full depth into the arm. Immediately after this incident occurred, the head of the dog was sent for examination, and the authorities reported finding rabies in an aggravated degree, and earnestly urged immediate treatment for the child. I am glad to say, however, that unlike King Asa, I turned to the Lord instead of to the physicians. The child's mother did what she could to ease the sense of distress, and on my arrival home we asked for Christian Science help. The practitioner called early in the evening, and the boy fell asleep. He slept soundly all night, and awakened next morning without the slightest feeling of discomfort. There was no inflammation and hardly any discoloration, although immediately after it was bitten the arm between the elbow and the shoulder turned almost black. The boy played with his brother, in the way boys usually do, without any inconvenience, and attended Sunday school, no one knowing of the experience. After the treatment began there was no evidence in the boy's actions that anything unpleasant had happened to him.

Words cannot begin to express the gratitude we owe to Christian Science for this and the numerous other demonstrations we have had. My wife and I have been interested in Science some eight years, and we look to no other help, but hope to learn more of this truth as given to us by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—
