Testimonies of Healing

It is with the hope of encouraging...

From the March 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with the hope of encouraging some poor sufferer that I send this testimony. I had been more ill than well ever since our first child was born, over seventeen years ago, and had spent on doctors and operations much which should have been used for my family's needs. I had grown worse continually, although most of the physicians had done their very best to cure me.

It was at a time when I had just come out of a hospital, some four years ago, that a dear friend and neighbor, seeing my need for something more than materia medica could supply, asked me if I did not care to read a little book she had. This book was the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and in my misery I was willing to read anything that would take my mind off my wretched condition. I accepted her offer, and she brought the little book over about the middle of the afternoon. I went through it excitedly, reading a little here and a little there, yet not comprehending much. I read until my daughter returned from school; then I asked her to prepare the evening meal. I still kept on reading, unable to lay the book down, until it was too dark to see the lines. It was during this reading that I was healed of severe eye trouble. I even forgot to put on my glasses, which I had worn for years. Often when I had tried to read a little with them on it would become necessary for me to go and lie down until I recovered from the suffering. I now have perfect eyesight, and often read at night without the slightest discomfort. From that time on I have studied the textbook every day, and many are the healings that have followed.

Our baby was healed of a sprained wrist while I studied the Lesson-Sermon one morning. For about two days his arm had been in a sling pinned to his dress, and every little movement of it would cause him to cry out in pain. On this, the third morning after the accident, and just as I finished the Lesson-Sermon, I looked up, and there he was down on all fours playing horse.
