About nineteen years ago I became interested in Christian Science, and since then I have had many wonderful healings, some being instantaneous and others requiring much prayerful study and work. Although I have always been very grateful for the quick healings, I realize that much growth in understanding has come from having to turn constantly to God for guidance and help in working out what seemed to be prolonged and difficult problems.
A number of years ago, while I was suffering from a very serious illness, and in an unconscious condition, my father was told by two physicians, one a specialist, that my case was hopeless and would continue to become more serious. Christian Science help was asked for, with the result that in a short time I was able to be about my accustomed duties again. Congestion of the lungs, heart trouble, chronic colds, extreme sensitiveness, reticence, nervous fear, and many other difficulties have been overcome through the application of Christian Science.
I should also like to relate an instance of God's wonderful protection and care which took place about fourteen years ago, while I was teaching in a southern college. One night I was awakened by a man sitting on my cot, with a weapon in his hand, repeatedly asking me if I would listen to what he was going to say to me. Humanly speaking there seemed no possible way of escape from him, so I turned absolutely to God and was rewarded by hearing the voice of Truth tell me distinctly that the next time he repeated his question I must answer, "Yes," and immediately call for help. I was obedient and soon realized that the room was empty. I have always felt a great sense of gratitude to God for this deliverance, as I was unharmed. It proved that God is a very present help at all times and under all circumstances, if we turn to Him and are obedient.
