One May day my little daughter then about six years old, in company with her schoolmate, went into a field to pick strawberries. There were mules in the field. That afternoon word came that one of the mules had attacked her. I went directly from school to the telephone declaring, as best I could, God's infinite care for His children. I got a practitioner's help immediately. The child was terribly frightened, trembling and crying continually. When I went to her bedside she screamed, "Read, mama; read from Science and Health." I read loud and long. The mule had bitten her badly, and I found a swollen ridge across the top of her head. Her face was bruised and her mouth cut. When the little boy who was with her had tried to drive the mule away with a stick, the mule had turned and kicked her on the face.
The practitioner worked for her that afternoon and night; the next morning while I was reading to her from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she gave a jump, threw back the covers, and was out over the foot of the bed laughing and saying merrily, "I'm well, mama; I'm healed!" In a month the manifestations of the incident were gone. She was in school on the third morning, and continued to attend.
I myself have been healed: blood poisoning was relieved quite suddenly. I had been suffering for about half an hour when the practitioner was notified. She treated me, and I fell asleep. When I awoke the disturbance had passed: I was healed.
