The words of the poet Milton, "Hence, loathed melancholy," often found echo in my heart as I struggled to free myself from the visitor that so persistently drew down all the shades of my mental home and made it a chamber chill, dark, and dreary. The "shadow" of melancholy darkened my consciousness for years, but now I am grateful to bear witness to the power of Christian Science to bring light to the mind and joy to the heart.
Christian Science came to our home as the last resort when the doctors failed to heal my mother of a tumor. My mother's sister had herself experienced the blessings of Truth, and she lovingly brought Christian Science to us in our extremity. The very first night she was with us I took off my glasses permanently, for my eyes were instantaneously healed while I was talking with her that evening. That was thirteen years ago; and ever since I have been an eager student of the Science presented to us by Mary Baker Eddy. The search for divine Principle in daily experience has been of absorbing interest, and every difficulty presented is now but an opportunity to accept the invitation expressed in Malachi, "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts."
For the consciousness of power which the study of Christian Science gives, and for the resulting sense of freedom from limitation and disease, I am very grateful. I would express my gratitude, too, for the work done by Mrs. Eddy in seeking out and making known to the world this truth which Jesus told us should make us free.—Dover, Delaware.
