Shortly after becoming a student...

From the September 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Shortly after becoming a student of Christian Science, I was healed in one treatment of a great sense of grief. I had lost all peace of mind and could not perform my work properly. My appetite had almost left me, and I found myself afraid to eat my regular meals. In my extremity I went to a loving practitioner and explained my case to her, whereupon she agreed to treat me. Later, when on my way home, I well remember skipping and running joyfully along, realizing that I was free.

On another occasion, when away from home, I was taken ill with a prevalent sickness. Feeling delirious at times I sent for a friend to whom I dictated a telegram to be sent to a Christian Science practitioner in a distant city. This incident occurred one evening. The following morning, although quite weak, I got up, realizing that I was healed. What impressed me most was the fact that I felt better mentally and spiritually, and I knew that I could never be quite the same person again.

Another clear proof of the healing efficacy of the truth occurred to me several years ago. When engaged on some construction work out of town I felt myself attacked intermittently with severe toothache. These attacks continued for several days, despite all efforts to help myself. Finally I returned to the city to secure help in Christian Science. A student of Christian Science, to whom I mentioned my trouble, inquired if the tooth were decayed. I informed him that in so far as I knew it was not. To satisfy myself in this respect, I asked a dentist to look at the tooth, and he pronounced it sound, although he wished to remove a gold crown to be absolutely sure. This I did not permit him to do. Later, upon advising my friend of the dentist's verdict, he suggested that I endeavor to handle the case myself by knowing the allness of divine Mind and the utter unreality of poison or pressure of any kind. I did this to the best of my ability, and as a result, each recurring attack grew less and less, until the attacks finally disappeared. In a day's time I returned to my work without experiencing any further trouble.
