The editor of the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Herald, Frank M. Sparks, in the issue for Sunday, July 3, in an editorial regarding the Democratic National Convention, said in part: "The Christian Science teacher who opened one of the sessions of the convention went right back to fundamentals and the prayer really meant something. He merely asked that the entire convention join in silent prayer, and then . . . repeated the Lord's Prayer. The only time in either convention that the prayers were listened to or heeded was then. The convention hall was actually silent. The throngs ceased walking about or talking, and apparently did actually join in the silent prayer. From this standpoint this was the outstanding feature of both conventions."
By the unanimous decision of First and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist, Christchurch, New Zealand, they have united "in order," as their resolution states, "more effectively to support and extend the activities of Christian Science in Christchurch, and therefore in New Zealand." The united organization is known as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Christchurch, and the services will be held in the edifice occupied by former Second Church of that city.
