On January 18, 1928, I went into Winnipeg to consult a surgeon in regard to what physicians had pronounced a cancerous growth, from which I had been suffering intense pain. I had previously had an operation for this trouble, at that time one breast being removed. When I reached the city I was suffering as intensely as before the operation. The surgeon wanted me to go at once to a hospital, as, seemingly, only another operation would prolong life, but it would not cure. During my illness, which extended over a number of years, I had been treated by fourteen physicians.
Having heard of Christian Science at the time of my operation, I thought that this time, in my extremity, I would look into it for myself. I was too weak to move about, so I sent for some literature on the subject. Later on, when I was able to come to the city, I asked my sister to send for a friend of hers who was a Christian Scientist. This lady kindly came to see me, and after answering some of my questions invited me to go to a Christian Science lecture which was to be given the next day. I attended the lecture, and the following day visited a practitioner, returning a few days later for a further talk with him. Other than the two visits to the practitioner's office, I did not have any help, but continued to study the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I returned to my home feeling much better and stronger; the pain and suffering had ceased, and I was beginning to learn that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). A few weeks after this I realized that the cancerous growth had entirely disappeared.
It is now over four years since this took place, and there has been no return of the trouble. I am indeed grateful to God and to Christian Science for this wonderful healing.—Oak Point, Manitoba, Canada
