When still a young student of Christian Science I experienced a very painful sinus infection. I sought aid in Christian Science but seemed to receive no benefit. Because of the deep concern of those about me I consented to medical treatment. I was under this treatment for many weeks and the condition finally seemed relieved, but the doctor warned me that it was only because of the approach of summer, and that as soon as the season of colds returned there would be a return of the condition; he felt certain that it would be necessary finally to make an incision.
Part of this prediction came to pass, for early in November I had another attack, so severe and so painful that I spent a number of sleepless nights. Then, remembering Mrs. Eddy's words, "Unless an ill is rightly met and fairly overcome by Truth, the ill is never conquered" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 231), I turned again to Christian Science and called another practitioner. Two days later it was necessary for me to attend a convention in another city and the practitioner assured me that I could go. I was only slightly relieved when I took the train, but when I arrived at the convention the cavity opened just as if an incision had been made and the poison drained away. Immediately I dropped into a long and refreshing sleep, and when I awakened the healing was complete and perfect. In the twenty-one years that have passed since then, there has been no return of this trouble, nor has there been even the slightest evidence of a cold in all those years.
This healing has always stood out as a beacon light, assuring me that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword." It planted my feet firmly upon the rock of Truth, and I have never been tempted again to seek other aid than God; for our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 231): "What God cannot do, man need not attempt. If God heals not the sick, they are not healed, for no lesser power equals the infinite All-power; but God, Truth, Life, Love, does heal the sick through the prayer of the righteous."—Baraboo, Wisconsin.
