Testimonies of Healing

It was some nineteen years ago...

From the April 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was some nineteen years ago that I was prompted to investigate Christian Science. Through many discordant conditions I have been wonderfully sustained and protected. I have had many healings, of neuritis, stomach trouble, constipation, piles, and other ills. The smoking habit was healed when I realized there was no satisfaction in puffing a cigar or pipe. At one stage I was attempting to smoke and to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, at the same time. It is needless to say that this procedure did not work out harmoniously. Financial lack and unemployment have been overcome, as have irritability and a desire to be sarcastic, resentful, and vindictive. Thoughts that produce these inharmonious conditions are not from God, good, and their unreality is realized when one replaces them with the truths of being.

One healing that was of great benefit in increasing my understanding of Christian Science was that of neuritis. I awoke one morning experiencing great pain in my right arm; moreover, I could not lift or use the arm in any way. At the office where I was employed there was an unusual amount of work, it being the first of the month, when certain important reports had to be prepared. I called a practitioner, who explained to me that I should try to realize that as an idea of God I could not suffer pain or be deprived of my rightful heritage— harmonious activity; that whatever was necessary and right for me to do I could do, and that God would sustain and support my every effort in this direction. I worked on these scientific truths the best I could, and within an hour was able to dress, shave myself, and go to the office. Before the forenoon was over I was able to write legibly, and by closing time the ailment had been completely healed.

For some fifteen years I have depended entirely upon the teachings of Christian Science in overcoming inharmonious conditions. I am exceedingly grateful for all the loving help received from practitioners, and for loyal friends who have assisted me along the way; for an increasing understanding of the Bible; for the sense of protection which the study of Christian Science affords; for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the opportunity to serve. I am profoundly grateful to God and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for Christian Science, and for the blessings its teachings are bringing to the world.—
