ABOUT two years ago I was instantaneously healed of heart trouble. One afternoon, when shopping in the city, I felt faint and nearly lost consciousness. I became fearful and stepped into a telephone booth, called my husband, and asked him to come and get me. When we reached home, he called a physician, who examined me and said that it was nervous prostration and heart trouble, and that I must go to bed for an indefinite period. He prescribed some black pills for my heart and told me to sleep all that I could.
I lay in bed three months with such fear of my heart that I hardly dared to take a deep breath. This caused my lungs to contract. One evening my husband laid some Christian Science Sentinels on my bed, and said that friends had sent them. This seemed to come in answer to my prayer to God that I might become well so that I could go on with my work. I turned to an article on overcoming fear, which so plainly explained the truth to me that a mental chemicalization followed. I knew that God was present and was the only power; and the pills seemed so inadequate that I threw them away.
On the following Saturday afternoon, these friends called and when they found me so greatly interested in the literature they had sent, they told me that a practitioner would explain Christian Science to me and help me. With my consent a practitioner was immediately called. When she, sitting at my bedside, expressed tenderness and confidence, it seemed that the whole burden was lifted right then. Twenty-four hours later I was dressed and downstairs helping to prepare the evening meal. Two days later, as I was having an absent treatment, I suddenly felt my lungs expanding as though air were being pumped into them. This was a certain proof to me that God is ever present and all-powerful. I was healed, at the same time, of a stubborn case of constipation.
