Testimonies of Healing

After being absent from all...

From the June 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AFTER being absent from all church services for more than ten years, we moved to a neighboring state, and there I began to attend the Christian Science church with my husband, who had just become interested in this Science. I did not expect to use it as a healing agency, though prior to this move four operations had seriously reduced our finances. We placed our six-year-old boy in the Christian Science Sunday School, and soon began to prove our understanding of the truth, as given by Mrs. Eddy, in the healing of mumps, toothache, chicken pox, grippe, and a sinus condition which my husband manifested. These were healed through the help of practitioners, and some minor ailments through our own efforts.

Three years later we moved to another town about twenty miles distant, where Christian Science was seemingly not welcome, and where there were no other Christian Scientists. We took our stand, however, and continued to attend church in the city from which we had moved. Mortal mind was greatly stirred over the fact that we used no material remedies; and although anxious to prove that Christian Science heals permanently, we were not sufficiently advanced in our understanding to meet quickly the experience which later developed. Our son awoke one morning to find that he had no use of his feet and legs. Pain and great fear were manifested by him, although a practitioner worked steadily for us. After two weeks we decided to go to my home, where we could be with relatives who were Scientists. A practitioner there took the case, and in two days the boy was up on his feet and went for a pony ride without my knowledge. While on this ride, he was thrown and dragged, but reached home unharmed. This experience, however, caused his fear for himself to return, and once more he became prostrated. Metaphysical work was continued; and in a week he was up again, though not entirely free. On our returning to the town where we lived, mortal mind was stirred to the extent that we were forced to have a doctor look him over; but the truth had already done its work, for almost immediately he was released from the trouble, which has never reappeared. That was over two years ago. The difficulty was infantile paralysis.

We are so grateful for constant supply, and for the more loving attitude expressed around us. The literature is a never-failing source of joy and help. My husband and I are grateful for membership in The Mother Church.—,
