Christian Scientists can be assured that, in the main, anything important which Mrs. Eddy wrote and had published in our periodicals up to 1896 is to be found in "Miscellaneous Writings," for she herself selected them from the periodicals for preservation in this book. Some items or topics she covered thoroughly in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
Years later, in 1908, Mrs. Eddy selected from the periodicals items she had published there since 1896, and marked them for future republication in a book to be entitled "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," a companion volume to "Miscellaneous Writings." To this second volume were added later items and some few unselected ones by Mrs. Eddy which the Trustees under the Will and The Christian Science Board of Directors found important to reprint. So it should be realized that "Miscellaneous Writings," issued while our Leader was with us, contains exactly what she, up to its publication, chose for reprinting, and that Miscellany completes the compilation of her various contributions to the Christian Science periodicals.
