Twenty-Six years ago, after a very difficult confinement when I held a living son in my arms contrary to the expectation of the doctors, my one desire was that he might never injure or kill another mother's son. Although at the time I did not understand the nature of God and His spiritual creation in the light of Christian Science, I had great confidence in Him.
When Christian Science was offered and demonstrated to me several years later at a time of great and not entirely unmerited suffering, it was only after much hesitation that I accepted it; in fact, it was not until I was really ready to fulfill its moral demands. During the following years it was the study of this completely satisfying religion that brought about my complete regeneration, not only physically, but also financially and morally, and a gratifying change took place in my family affairs, which hitherto had been inharmonious.
When the war broke out in 1939, I was already enjoying the great privilege of membership in The Mother Church and was an active member of a branch church; also I had had class instruction. In the meantime I had learned the truth of the Biblical statement, "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." After I had discovered for myself in the light of Truth the good and true abiding in all mankind, I endeavored to open my son's eyes to them, and my endeavors were manifestly blessed. He voluntarily joined a technical unit, which was doing constructive work, and was thereby able to help his comrades.
