"Come and hear, all ye that fear God...

From the October 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul" (Ps. 66:16). This verse from Psalms expresses some of my great joy and gratitude for Christian Science.

When I was a child, my parents encouraged me to study the Bible. The four Gospels and the Psalms soon became my favorite reading. I believed every word Jesus said, and I was particularly sure that God takes care of us. However, I noticed that grown people did not believe this or else thought it could not be demonstrated.

I reached maturity confused and frustrated. I was not able to put into practice or accept the teachings of the orthodox church to which I belonged, nor did I seem to be able to use my own understanding of the Bible. After twenty years of this church membership I realized that I did not know God and did not know how to pray.
