From the November 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My family came into Christian Science as the result of a healing I had as a small child. A serious fever, which a doctor could not diagnose, caused me to cry much of the time as well as to lose hair and appetite.

In desperation, my mother telephoned a neighbor, a Christian Scientist, whom she greatly admired because her five children were happy and well. The neighbor recommended that Mother consider calling a Christian Science practitioner.

Mother did this late that afternoon. The practitioner said she would pray for me and asked Mother to study the ninety-first Psalm, which includes this verse: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." As she studied the psalm, fear was quieted and Mother was able to join the family for dinner, something she hadn't done for two weeks. While they were eating, I got out of bed and asked for a bowl of cereal. I was completely healed. Most assuredly, the power of Christ had enfolded me, and I had felt its healing touch.
