Fresh insights into Christian Science nursing

From the November 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science nurses have for many years provided tender encouragement and support as well as the practical care necessary for those relying on spiritual means for healing. A By-Law that Mrs. Eddy included in the Manual of The Mother Church in 1909 sets the standard for the Christian Science nurse and secures a continuing relationship between The Mother Church and the Christian Science nurse.

In recent years there has been a careful examination of Christian Science nursing. Many individuals who have contributed to our movement in the nursing field have participated in this study. The purpose was to see more clearly how the foundation for Christian Science nursing is coincident with the overall mission of the Church of Christ, Scientist. The study encompassed the role of the Christian Science nurse, the activity of nursing facilities, and the structure of nurses training.

A number of important conclusions emerged as the study progressed, and they were shared with the nursing field as they unfolded.
