Dominion over all

From the July 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The bee circled her head, making little dives toward her face. She swatted it away with her hand, but it came back again and again. Finally, my friend put down her hand and said, "This bee has a God-given purpose, and it is not to annoy me!" Within seconds, the bee flew away.

I marveled at the dominion expressed by my friend. I knew that through the practice of Christian Science she had demonstrated her dominion over troubles far more serious than a pesty bee. Yet how important it was to realize that even this tiny insect could be seen as under divine control and as subject to the harmony of Love's sovereignty.

Over the years, I have often been assailed with troubles that seemed as persistent as that bee. And in each case I would seek to express the same dominion that my friend had shown so long ago. But often my attempts at dominion simply became struggles to be convinced of the spiritual truths I had been studying. I sometimes wondered why her simple demonstration had been so free of struggle. Just what is dominion, and how could I express it more naturally?
