Aaron: Today we’d like to talk about a specific term that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discover and Founder of Christian Science, gave to evil. She called it animal magnetism, and she also instructs people how they can stop its negative effects and bring healing to every challenge.

So Evan, I’d like to begin by asking you, according to Christian Science, what is animal magnetism?

Evan: Happy to talk about this. Animal magnetism is not a term used commonly today. It was used much more commonly in Mrs. Eddy’s time. However, it has taken on the form of other terms that we are more familiar with, such as hypnotism. But the background of animal magnetism is it’s a term used in Christian Science to stand for everything and anything that would oppose God, that would deny God’s presence.
