Buying and selling in God's housing market

These days, buying or selling a house can seem to be a complicated and stressful experience. We all know stories of prospective buyers who cannot get financing, or of people with homes that have been on the market for a long time. My heart goes out to them. I know from experience what that’s like, and that prayer can bring a solution to these issues—and there is always a solution.

Prayer is more than just asking God to sell a house or provide us with the necessary funds. Prayer gives us a different perspective on home buying or selling and new meaning to the concept of home. It helps us see this issue with spiritual insight and to find creative solutions to the challenges we face.

The Bible tells us, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever” (Ps. 23:6). This house of the Lord is a mental concept—comprised of the spiritual qualities of God. This house is infinite, filling all space, because God is infinite. It is always strong, protective, and comforting—truly a happy home. Since it is infinite and it exists in consciousness, we must always live there; we can never be out of it—no matter how much we move, or even if we find ourselves homeless. We are always “in the house of the Lord.”
