How do we get to that place of understanding where “the scientific statement of being”—which says, “All is infinite Mind [infinite good] and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (Science and Health, p. 468)—becomes so clear that we quit believing there is some other power working against our well-being? Mary Baker Eddy says this understanding “must finally come” (p. 90).
As a new student of Christian Science years ago, I thought that to overcome any challenge through prayer, my only need was to study and work hard to know that a problem was not real, because it was not of God—that it was just mortal mind trying to convince me of some life limitation. I also thought denying the error of mortal mind and affirming the truth of one Mind would always bring healing. Though this is one powerful way to pray, it’s not the only one.
Beyond denying what seems to be, we can learn to stand in absolute acknowledgment of our present perfection, of our present “well-being.”
