Love's divine economy

From The Christian Science Journal - August 28, 2011

It’s almost impossible to follow the news these days and not hear something negative about the economy. Reports are everywhere—news about personal and national debt, foreclosures, stock market fluctuation, unemployment. As a Christian Scientist, I like to pray about these issues, and my prayer has led me to an elevated, spiritual understanding of the economy.

From a human standpoint, the economy is defined as a system for managing material resources and wealth. It is all about trading goods and services, with support or resistance for market value seemingly driven largely by fear and greed. To understand economy from a higher perspective, it is helpful to gain a clear sense that God is All-in-all, and is therefore the only source of everything we need. Because God is Spirit, everything He supplies must be spiritual. Our real supply is the flow of spiritual ideas from God to us. That’s the divine economy in a nutshell.

In the divine economy, there is no fear or greed, because we don’t have to fight for our piece of the pie. Just as there is an unlimited and continuous amount of sunlight available, there is an infinite source of good, God, available for all of us.
