When Dad passed on...

From The Christian Science Journal - October 10, 2011

Most of us have experienced grief over losing a loved one. Sudden and unexpected death can cause myriad feelings, such as anger, hatred, frustration, and shock. These emotions can last a long time, but even in our darkest hours, God never leaves us alone.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, reassured us inScience and Health with Key to the Scriptures that in times of need we can all turn “like tired children to the arms of divine Love” (p. 322).

Christian Science can help anyone suffering grief, since it helps us think about life in a more spiritual way. One particular passage from Science and Health has helped me pray about grief: “The fact that the Christ, or Truth, overcame and still overcomes death proves the ‘king of terrors’ to be but a mortal belief, or error, which Truth destroys with the spiritual evidences of Life; . . .” (p. 289).
