A universal family

From The Christian Science Journal - December 1, 2012

First appeared in the December 2012 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in Portuguese.

I grew up in the city of Rio de Janeiro and was raised very spoiled. I had hardly ever done laundry or performed household chores, since my mom always did all these things and sought to satisfy all my wishes.

In 2011, when I went to study at Principia College, an American college for Christian Scientists, I became concerned when I realized that I would need to tackle household tasks alone and wondered whether I would be able to take care of myself. I almost returned home, but I soon realized I could address that challenge through prayer.

During the first semester at college, I missed my family a lot, but found out that I had a lot of strength to move forward, for my strength comes from God. I realized that I must be here by the will of God, because each day represented a victory that would lead me to spiritual progress.
