Christ, the only true way

From The Christian Science Journal - December 1, 2012

First appeared in the December 2012 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in Spanish.

Through the ages, mankind has always tried to get closer to God, to that which is higher and more spiritual. Those who have been looking for ways to transcend the material have left signs around the globe. We find roads with different names. In India, the Ganges River road is considered as sacred because its waters are thought to have purifying properties. In Spain we find another example in what is called the road to Santiago de Compostela, also known as the Way of St. James, where Christian pilgrimages date back to medieval times. This way was considered a pilgrimage through which a process of inner improvement took place.

The Bible shows us the way of salvation through the practice of the divine Principle that operated in Jesus, who showed that this way is the Christ. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy indicates that Christ Jesus is the Way-shower by saying that “Jesus mapped out the path for others. He unveiled the Christ, the spiritual idea of divine Love” (p. 38). And farther ahead it says, “Explaining and demonstrating the way of divine Science, he became the way of salvation to all who accepted his word” (pp. 315-316).

The way of Christ, or Truth, takes us from a material to a spiritual concept of existence. It brings us out from a sense of origin in sin to showing us that holiness constitutes our true nature. It is the way that frees us from disease and enables us to find health.
