Praying for our government

From The Christian Science Journal - August 15, 2012

There has been a plethora of blogging, chatting, and reporting about how the United States government is so tied up in knots that it is unable to accomplish any meaningful legislation—case in point, the recent dispute about student loan subsidies and how to pay for them.

During a recent Sunday School class, one of my high school students blurted out, “Our government is terrible.” That comment, more than the media’s buzz, got my attention.

We all may have political positions we favor, and reasons that seem rational in support of various stands we’ve taken, but our government needs us to turn our swords into plowshares, and our spears into pruninghooks (see Isaiah 2:4). Prayer is needed.
