When someone says, “You need a reality check,” often they mean, “Get your head out of the clouds and come back to ‘the real world.’ ” This implies that “the real world” is full of limitations—limited funds, health, abilities, and opportunities.
But this I’ve learned in my study of Christian Science: When one’s concept of reality is anchored in God (the one divine Mind or intelligence of the universe manifesting all power), and nurtured by an enlightened faith in Spirit, then reality is much more than a limited sense of things. It is wholly good, spiritual, and unlimited.
Should this seem surprising? Isn’t the whole Bible about gaining a higher, more spiritual view of reality, which, even when just glimpsed, removes limitations imposed by a mortal sense of what’s real? Aren’t many beloved Bible stories examples of people turning away from limited material appearances, and getting their facts (their “reality check”) straight from God?
