As Mother’s Day in the United States approaches this Sunday, I have a particular place in my heart for the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson subject that lands every May right around that day: “Adam and Fallen Man.”
Several years ago, when my young daughter and I took a bike ride on Mother’s Day, I went over the handlebars of my bike as we went down a steep hill, and broke my arm. At the local emergency room I declined the surgery that the doctors said was absolutely necessary.
I remember so vividly that this decision—this unfoldment, really—wasn’t about human will. It was based on the clear and certain conviction that I was whole, complete—unbroken. And as God’s idea, it was my divine right to have that fact revealed to me in a way that would lead to complete healing.
