Death is no part of Life

From The Christian Science Journal - March 1, 2013

First appeared in the March 2013 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in French.

Many people wonder: What is death? An absolute end? Do those who die end up in heaven or hell or some place in between? Will they be reincarnated in a physical form? And why has humanity always been so fascinated with death?

The allegory of Adam and Eve in the second chapter in the book of Genesis in the Bible affirms that man is made from dust and must return to dust. In other words, man is born a mortal and therefore his life must inevitably end in death. That’s a terrible condemnation and contrary to the first chapter in Genesis, where we’re given the true concept of man as created in the image and likeness of God. God is Life itself, eternal Life, therefore without beginning and without end. Life is Spirit, not material or mortal at all. As the reflection of God, Life, man simply cannot die.

I was raised in a Christian Science family. When I was growing up, I saw many relationship, professional, financial, and health problems healed through the understanding and trust that God cherishes deeply each one of His children. I learned that God is Life, Truth, and Love, All-in-all, leaving no place in the universe for any kind of discord or death.
