No more stomachache

From The Christian Science Journal - April 1, 2013

First appeared in the April 2013 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in German.

One time, my dad, my brother, and I wanted to fly to America to go to a Christian Science summer camp. On the day we were to fly from Frankfurt to the USA I did not feel quite well. But I didn’t think much about it because I’m often excited before going on a plane. So we went on our way to Frankfurt to catch the plane. While we were in the airport and were checking in, my stomach started hurting really bad. I told my dad, who is a Christian Science practitioner, about it, and he prayed for me right away. I know that he always prays for me and it’s always very comforting for me.

I was thinking all the time that I should not really have any pain. I was on my way to a place where I would have a lot of fun and where I would learn more about God and Christian Science. God always has only a good plan for us, which can never be disturbed. I thought the stomachache made no sense at all because there was no reason for having it. So I wasn’t sad or afraid. Sickness never makes sense because God did not make it. I just thought: “No! If this stomachache makes no sense, then it doesn’t have to be there!”

The whole time we were in the airport and then on the plane, I kept thinking about this. As a result, my stomach hurt less and less until partway through the flight the pain was all gone, and I was able to enjoy the rest of the plane ride. Finally, we arrived in the USA, and I had no more stomachache.
