Prayer and preventive care

From The Christian Science Journal - July 31, 2013

In news stories and conversation today, I’ve noticed an increased focus on the subject of preventive medicine. People take it seriously. Some are going to great lengths to prevent disease. These include not just taking medications and getting vaccinations, but even going through preventive surgeries to alter or remove parts of the body before they cause problems.

Preventive medicine is an important subject in our pursuit of well-being. However, the idea of subjecting our bodies to invasive measures in order to address problems that have not actually occurred warrants serious thought.

What we do to our bodies to care for them is a controversial topic with many opinions about what is best. Yet, from my study and practice of Christian Science, I’ve learned it is especially helpful first to consider any fears one may have about disease and its related effects on the body. Fear can be terribly debilitating. It is a harmful state of thought from which we all can find freedom.
