As a recently married man, I have been blessed in countless ways by my relationship with my wife. One of the major adjustments, however, has been finding the time and space for my individual spiritual life in the midst of our shared life together.
Before I got married, I had developed a particular morning spiritual routine—consisting of prayer, reading articles in the Christian Science periodicals, and studying the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson. Once married, I found that on weekdays I was able to keep up with this routine because my wife departed early for work, leaving me with a few hours of quiet time in the house before my own workday began. But on weekends, when we were home together, I struggled to fit in consistently all the various parts of my morning routine. Recently, though, I saw how I could break free from what I hadn’t realized was a rigid prayer formula.
On one Saturday morning, my wife and I decided to take advantage of a rare opportunity to sleep in, enjoy a relaxing breakfast, and then do some shopping. On this morning, I took no time to pray, read the periodicals, or study the Bible Lesson.
