In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, we read: “Angels are not etherealized human beings, evolving animal qualities in their wings; but they are celestial visitants, flying on spiritual, not material, pinions. Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their individualism may be” (p. 298). In the Glossary of Science and Health, angels are further defined: “ANGELS. God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality” (p. 581).
In my life I have often experienced God sending us His angel messages—pure thoughts—when, humanly speaking, we are at our wit’s end. These inspirations appear in different ways. Sometimes one is led to open the Bible, a book by Mary Baker Eddy, or one of the Christian Science periodicals spontaneously to read a particular passage which contains exactly the right answer to a question. Another time one may meet a person who tells him exactly what he needs to hear to find the solution to a problem.
We will do well to let God’s angel messages always lead us. Try it yourself sometime!
