No need to be afraid

From The Christian Science Journal - July 1, 2015

Original in Portuguese

I am in sixth grade. In July, during school vacation, I like to attend a Christian Science camp in the United States because I learn many new things and learn to express courage, confidence, freedom, kindness, and other qualities that come from God.

One night, we were sleeping in our cabins and it started to rain. It was a storm with strong winds. I couldn’t sleep and stayed up late. I was afraid and cold. Next morning I wasn’t feeling well and started to have symptoms of fever.

I talked with the camp’s Christian Science practitioner and she reminded me of the Bible story when Christ Jesus stopped a storm (see Matthew 8:23–27). I also remembered the one when Jesus walked on the sea (see Matthew 14:22–33). In that story, the wind was very strong when he walked on the sea, but it ceased when he came into the ship. Jesus was not afraid and so he stopped the tempest and the winds and walked on the sea. I also didn’t need to be afraid of the storm.
