Testimonies of Healing

I realize that my gratitude for...

From the July 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Realize that my gratitude for the many blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life can only be expressed by my efforts to live the truth as given to us by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and so plainly set forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by her. Yet, thinking that my experience may be of some benefit to others, I wish to tell of the healing power of Christian Science as experienced by me.

My physical healing was most wonderful to us. I had been under the treatment of good physicians of this city, and all diagnosed my ailments with the same result in every respect. For over three months before asking for help in Christian Science I had been confined to my room, and most of the time to my bed, with what these physicians called chronic appendicitis, ulceration of the stomach and bowels, liver complaint, nervousness, and numerous other troubles which made my life a burden. After the first treatment in Christian Science I was able to attend to my household duties, and I am sure I was healed of the stomach and bowel trouble in the first treatment. Two hours later I ate a hearty supper, and felt no ill effect ; in fact, I felt better than I had in months past, all fear of eating was destroyed, and I have never had any return of the difficulty since. The other ailments did not disappear so quickly, but one by one they were overcome, and all sense of them disappeared. I have never resorted to any material remedy since my first treatment in Christian Science and have never enjoyed as good health as now, since I was a young girl. Christian Science is all I need both spiritually and physically.

For the physical healing I am truly thankful to God and grateful to Mrs. Eddy, but it is the least of the blessings which this truth has brought into my life. Before asking for help in Christian Science I had no religious belief. I could not accept the orthodox teaching about God and man. We had been married over seven years, but never had a Bible in our home, did not feel the need of one, and never attended church. After a few treatments and talks with the Christian Science practitioner, however, and reading the Sentinels which she loaned me, my eyes were opened, and I had a great desire to read the Bible, and since then, through the interpretation of Science and Health, it has been my "guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497). Soon after beginning to read the Bible, I took up the study of the Lesson Sermons, and from that day to this have found in the Bible and Science and Health all I need, for I am able to get the spiritual interpretation of the Word of God. Since my healing I have been a regular attendant at both the Sunday and Wednesday evening services in the Christian Science church.
