OUR READING ROOMS

From the June 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WE read in II Chronicles that God appeared to Solomon, and answered his prayer for knowledge and wisdom. "And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord, and an house for his kingdom." Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, had the true constructive desire; and that all mankind might be amply helped in finding the spiritual riches set forth in the Bible, in her writings, and in the Christian Science literature, she established the Reading Room as a part of the Christian Science organization.

"A friendly little house set by the road,
Not importuning, but with open door,
Where tired pilgrims learn to drop their
load,
Planted throughout the world, it waits to
bless!"

These Reading Rooms are sanctuaries furnished with aids for those. who seek spiritual refreshment or endeavor to lift their thought out of any mental pit into which it has fallen. Surely this points towards the fulfillment of the prophecy found in the book of Habakkuk, "The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord."
