RIGHTLY ASKING AND RICHLY RECEIVING

From the June 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WE should ask God for an understanding of His demands. Until better instructed, we demand material things. Christian Science teaches us what we really need, what to ask for and how to receive it; and those thus taught know that the source of all supply is God Himself, divine Mind, limitless and changeless. Could man possibly need more of wisdom than divine Mind imparts, more of peace than infinite Love provides, more of life than changeless Life includes?

Jesus said, "Ye have the poor always with you;" and although two thousand years have passed since these words were spoken, the cry of loss and lack and limitation is as rampant as ever. Jesus knew that in so-called mortal mind there could never be found substance, satisfaction, and supply; that, indeed, materiality is want. Men look to matter yearningly for that which is to be found only in immortal Mind. In the measure that we have mortal thoughts with us we have poverty with us. In the measure that we utilize the ideas of immortal Mind we see true abundance with us.

Financial situations, collective or individual, are essentially mental. The rise and fall of prices and incomes express the ups and downs of mortal concepts and their complications. There are no falling values in the real man's possessions; no cycles of soaring prosperity followed by depressing reaction in real consciousness, which is governed by unvarying divine law. Then, let us seek to attain real consciousness.
