In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 124): "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.'" Christian Science teaches that Mind is God, infinite, all-inclusive. Hence it follows that all reality is comprised within the realm of divine Mind and is forever held in one indivisible whole. These "properties of Mind" have the force of divine law, the law of unity to all the spiritual ideas of God.
Evil, being self-contradictory, claims on the one hand that it can cause destruction, disruption, deterioration, and decay, and on the other hand that it can combine its myriad beliefs. Mrs. Eddy draws attention to the importance of dealing with the latter claim in the following question (Science and Health, p. 450): "Knowing the claim of animal magnetism, that all evil combines in the belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter, electricity, animal nature, and organic life, who will deny that these are the errors which Truth must and will annihilate?" This "claim of animal magnetism" can be denied reality, power, and opportunity, for it lacks "adhesion, cohesion, and attraction," because these "properties of Mind" are wholly spiritual. "They belong to divine Principle" and never, therefore, to evil. There can be no combination without them.
On page 293 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy has written, "Electricity is not a vital fluid, but the least material form of illusive consciousness, —the material mindlessness, which forms no link between matter and Mind, and which destroys itself." On the same page we read: "The material so-called gases and forces are counterfeits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being. Electricity is the sharp surplus of materiality which counterfeits the true essence of spirituality or truth, —the great difference being that electricity is not intelligent, while spiritual truth is Mind." Herein is to be found a counterfact to the claim that "all evil combines in the belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter," because Mind is all-inclusive.
