Testimonies of Healing

From the March 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some time the realization that I have enjoyed the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals for over ten years and have not contributed one of my own has made me want to express my gratitude through them.

One of my first proofs of the healing power of God as taught in Christian Science was of a carbuncle under my right arm. We were preparing to move into a new place, and a relative with a small child chose that time to visit us. I was filled with resentment at what seemed to be an added burden. Although the carbuncle grew larger, I was able to clean shelves and put things in order with very little pain.

My husband brought a practitioner to see me, which I appreciated, for I was a new student and needed guidance. She was very faithful and handled all the thoughts expressed about the need for lancing and the fear of a reappearance on other parts of the body. That night in my sleep the carbuncle broke and very quickly healed, leaving no scar, nor was there any reappearance. The resentment had disappeared, and in its place came an appreciation of our guest, who proved to be a big help during the few days of inconvenience. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares."
